Last week a four day week and also  spirt week! There was some pretty crazy hair on crazy hair day! Monday was MLK day and no school, Tuesday was hats and glasses day which was fun. Sports jersey day was Friday.      

We are moving back though quick facts, last week was sevens. Everyones getting better! In math class we are doing a unit on fractions. There was a  end of unit quiz on fractions.                                                            
On friday a jump roping team came in and jump roped for us because we are doing jump rope for heart. It was amazing!!! The jump rope for heart event is on 2/3.

Last week are story of the week was about whales. We did a quick write using the vocabulary words. Later in the week we read a story with a partner about Japan whaling. Using a organizer we wrote are thoughts and opinions about whaling. Then we wrote them in sentence form.

4th Grade Concert

The fourth grade will perform a variety of songs learned in music class on March 3rd, Tuesday at 6:30 at Alameda. As we get closer to the date more specific information will be sent out. Students will perform music by George Gershwin, Duke Ellington, Jimmy Cliff, assorted New Orleans/Mardi Gras songs and others.

Reading Group Volunteers

I am looking for reading group volunteers for Wednesdays, 12:30-1:30. The following link is to a google doc sign-up sheet for the coming weeks. Typing Club!

     We have recently started typing practice through a program called Typing Club. This allows me, as the teacher, to assign various lessons for students to complete at a specifided rate and accuracy. Students can also go back and practice already completed lessons. From teacher view, I am able to see how much time each student has spent practicing-- daily, weekly and overall. I am also able to track their rate and level for each lesson.
     Typing will frequently be part of homework on Mondays and/or Wednesdays. Students are always welcome to practice for longer or on days not assigned if they would like. We have practiced on this site a number of times in the computer lab, so they should all know their username and password.

Polar Express Movie Night

The Polar Express

When: Thursday, December 18th

Where: Alameda, Room 144

Time: 5:30-8:00pm

Who: Ms. Brown's students. No siblings, friends, or parents.  

What to Bring: Students may bring 1 pillow, 1 blanket, 1 small stuffed animal, and a beverage with a lid (no pop)! I will provide popcorn for the class, please do not send addition snacks with your child.

What to Wear: Pajamas! (optional)

Passport Explorer: Homework & Websites

Students will start having Passport Explorer homework once a week. They are to choose a country from the month's Passport Club to research. The following are good websites to research various countries. Students are not limited to the following sites, they are simply suggestions. Please talk to your child as you see fit about safely searching the internet.

• On monday in math class everyone did something called find someone who....  We would go around the room with a piece of paper and ask other kids to fill them out.  There were problems like:

• The class also did quick sketches to help them.  They look like this:

• We have been working on personal narratives, too.  For a while, the class worked on character description and setting description papers.  Then on monday we started on our rough draft.  We all worked on it more throughout the week.    
• On the calendar a triangle is going into either quaderant 1,2,3, or 4.  This is called translation, reflection or rotation.  We also have another work sheet during calendar:  cups, quarts and gallons. Every day we add a cup to a bucket that can hold a quart.  Once they are full, we add them to a gallon-sized milk carton.
• For homework and math class, we have ladybug math problems.  There is a group of ladybugs making a garden or a house.  The teacher wants us to work on area and perimeter.   
• This weeks' quick fact is 4.
